Will Your A/C System Last Until Fall? Our “Repair Or Replace” Advice
Is your old air conditioning system on its last legs?
Deciding whether to repair or replace your current A/C system can be a daunting task. A repair job can be cheaper, at least in the short term; but that leaves you with a repaired but still old A/C. If it breaks down again and needs to be replaced, then that repair bill turns out to be wasted money rather than a savings.
At Symbiont Service Corp., we have been both repairing and replacing air conditioners in the Englewood area for two generations. We have developed a good sense of how to tell whether an A/C system is worth saving. So, if you are wondering whether to repair or replace your air conditioner, here are some of the factors you should consider:
- Age. Florida air conditioners get more work than those in other parts of the country and rarely last long into their teens. So, if your A/C is over 10 years old, it is more likely time for a replacement; any repairs would be rather short-term fixes.
- History. Has your system been repaired recently or multiple times over its history? All parts eventually wear out, and if one part has already needed repair, others have likely also become worn. One repair job may be cheaper than a new system, but multiple repair jobs can end up costing you more than a replacement would have.
- Efficiency. As air conditioners wear out, they often become less energy efficient. If your summer electric bills have been on the rise, it can be a sign your A/C is nearing the end of its life. Plus, a new system would then save you each month on your utility bills.
- Performance. If your home is overly humid or dusty, or if your A/C is noisy, you should think more about a replacement. All are signs of problems with your current system.
The best repair or replace advice we could offer you is to give us at Symbiont Service Corp. a call; we would be happy to take a look at your A/C and offer a professional evaluation of whether you should repair or replace it.
