Is Your Home A Candidate For GeoThermal Energy?

By: Robbi Hess | Category: GeoThermal Energy |

Saving money on home heating and cooling costs is something that the geothermal energy professionals from Symbiont Service Corp talk wtih homeowners about. You may wonder, “is your home a candidate for geothermal energy?” This is something that our geothermal energy professionals can help determine.

What is a geothermal system?

It is one designed to take advantage of natural heat found below the surface of the earth — it’s naturally occuring heat. The earth’s heat is economical and environmentally-friendly. The two factors of environmentally-friendly and being economical to operate are the reasons many Englewood, Florida homeowners are making the switch to geothermal energy to heat and cool their homes.

Is Your Home A Candidate For GeoThermal Energy?have a geo thermal inspection

Before you make the leap into geothermal energy, your geothermal pro needs to determine whether your home is a candidate and this begins by our evaluating the site. What are we looking for? There are at least three factors that will help determine whether it makes sense for you to upgrade to a geothermal system for your home or business.

  1. The underlying geology surrounding the home or building which you want to use geothermal for will play a significant role in determining whether it will be an effective and efficient system.
  2. The type and depth of soil and underground rock formations determine whether geothermal is an option. These factors will also help determine which type of system makes the most sense to install.
  3. What is the ground water or surface water availability at the site?  An open loop system works if there is a clean, high-quality water source available; this system is advantageous because it is a less expensive option than a closed-loop system. The advantage of a closed-loop system are the benefits of reliability and lower maintenance.
  4. Working with a qualified contractor is necessary to determine which system is best suited and will bring the best benefit.
  5. Your geothermal contractor will also note factors including: space available for the system;  the existing landscaping and location of underground utilities will play a role in determining the type, size and location of a geothermal system.

The first step in the process of deciding you want to have a geothermal system is to have an experienced, qualified geothermal contractor come to your home to evaluate the site and walk you through the steps involved and what system will work best — if any — on your property.
