How To Allergy-Proof Your Home
Achoo! It’s that time of year — allergy season! If you’re sneezing, coughing and have red, itchy eyes there are ways to address that and it could begin at home! How to allergy-proof your home is a topic the #geothermal professionals from Symbiont Service talk with customers about.
Indoor air, especially when the house has been closed up for the winter months and now is closed up so you can more efficiently run the air conditioner can have ten times more allergens than when you’re standing out-of-doors! When you consider this, you can see how you need to improve the indoor air quality of your home as a way to allergy-proof it.
How To Allergy-Proof Your Home
-
- Clean regularly. We know, who wants to spend free time cleaning when summer is so fleeting? But regular cleaning will remove airborne allergens and dust. Don’t use feather dusters as those move the dust into the air, but don’t remove them from the house; they simply stir it up and move it to another location. Use a damp cloth or a cloth with a furniture polish sprayed onto it. Dust the higher surfaces first, move downward, then vacuum furniture and floors.
- Eliminate dust-catching clutter. We know you love your unicorn collection, but it is also a dust collector. Try to reduce clutter and remove dust and allergens along with it.
- Clean the air filters. Whether you’re running the air conditioner or the furnace, make certain it has clean air filters. Ask your #geothermal professional how often they should be changed and be diligent with that task.
- Indoor air quality matters. Install a whole house ventilation system or a whole house air purifier to remove allergens and to help keep the air as dust free as possible. An air purifier will collect dust, pet dander and mold spores that are airborne and will remove them from the air you breathe.
Schedule regular HVAC maintenance to keep the unit functioning at its peak efficiency and to keep it clean. HVAC maintenance will lower your energy costs and help reduce allergy causing particles from your home. Proper maintenance will also protect the investment you’ve made in the HVAC system.
