Part 1 of Our Pool/Lazy River Upgrade

Jim Howarth, Director of Field Operations, recently helped a customer of ours upgrade their resort-style pool and lazy river with 10 model 215 pool heaters. Five of them are on their main pool and five are on the lazy river. The five main pool units are on three 5hp submersible pumps. The formal pool holds 175,000 gallons and the lazy river holds 187,000 gallons.
We’re getting ready to install three Yaskawa p1000IQ Variable Frequency Drives that are going to allow us to control the pump flow by pressure. This will ensure that we don’t exceed the manufacturer’s specifications on the pressure going into the coils.

of any pipe hammers or knocks.

The drive will also have a soft start feature, which will allow the pump to get up to speed very slowly. We’ll disable the three mag starters and switch them over to the VFDs. We will be mounting them on the wall and add a transducer sensor to control them, as well as a bladder tank.
