Finding ways to conserve water is not as difficult as you may imagine. You can talk with your family or your colleagues if you’re operating a commercial business about water conservation. Tips For Conserving Water And Saving Money
We’ve put together a quick checklist of ways you can conserve water and save money. Our geothermal experts from Symbiont Service Corp can help you with even more water conservation/money-saving tips, but here is a quick way to get started.
Leaks matter. Inspect your faucets and plumbing for any leaks or drips. Did you know that a single dropping faucet can cost you more than 20 gallons of water daily? Add up what that lost 20 gallons a day will cost you on a monthly basis and you can see money literally going down the drain.
Inspect faucets and toilets. A quick way to check whether the toilets are leaking is by adding a couple drops of food coloring into the water tank. If you then see colored water in the toilet bowl, there is a leak in the tank.
Waste matters. Don’t flush facial tissues, diaper wipes or other items that are not toilet tissue. In addition to wasting water if you have to flush more than once you run the risk of plugging the toilet.
Meter matters. Find a time when you’re not going to be using the water for a few hours. Make note of the numbers on the water meter displays. When you check the display numbers in a few hours, they should not have changed. If there are changes in the water meter readings and you haven’t used water during that time, there is a leak.
Water flow matters. We know that not too many people enjoy low flow shower heads, but they do save money and water. Take shorter showers and you will also save water and money.
Toilet matters. Do you use a low flush toilet? Make note of whether your toilet uses more than one and a half gallons of water per flush. If it does, you can cut back on water usage by filling a plastic bottle with sand or pebbles then placing that into the toilet tank. The weighted bottle will displace water and allow you to use less water per flush.
Insulation matters. Are the hot water pipes insulated? We may not get too many days of freezing or cold weather in Englewood, Florida but for those chilly days, insulated hot water pipes will reduce heat loss and keep the hot water hotter.
