14 Ways To Save On AC Bills
If the coronavirus pandemic taught us anything it’s that if we are going to spend time in our homes for extended periods of time, we need them to be comfortable, right? One way to ensure you are comfortable in your home is by having an air conditioner that is energy efficient and working properly. We have put together this list and tips for saving money on air conditioning bills.
The air conditioning and geothermal professionals from Symbiont Air Conditioning can ensure the HVAC unit in your home or office is operating at peak efficiency. When you have a HVAC inspection and take other steps you just might be able to save money on your utility bills and have more money in your pocket.
14 Ways To Save On AC Bills
There are big, and small, steps you can take to lower your home utility bills and reduce power consumption and they include:
- Having an inspection of the HVAC unit
- Cleaning and changing the filters in the unit so it operates more efficiently
- Turn off the A/C when you’re not home.
- Use a programmable thermostat to control the heating and cooling when you’re not away and when you’re sleeping.
- Use fans to help with cross circulation of the cooled or heated air
- Replace windows with insulated glazing
- Replace any old-fashioned light bulbs with LED or more energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs
- Make sure the attic is properly insulated to keep it warm in winter and cool in summer
- Add weather stripping to close any gaps in windows and doors
- Turn off the lights when you leave the room
- Don’t stand in front of the refrigerator with the door open. Remember being told, “We’re not cooling the neighborhood with the door opened.”
- If you walk away from your computer, have it programmed to “sleep” after ten minutes of inactivity
- Watch out for “phantom” energy usage. For example, if you’re going out on vacation, unplug the coffee maker, microwave, other household appliances (not the refrigerator) or lights and televisions as a way to reduce the electrical usage – no matter how small, it adds up
- Close the shades when the sun is streaming through the windows to block out the heat and prevent the A/C from turning on.
