More than $100K Saved With GeoThermal Heating System
This is how Grey Oaks saves more than $100K with GeoThermal heating.
If you’re looking for ways to save on pool heating costs, look no further because Symbiont Service has you covered. Pool heaters can rack up sky-high bills, making it a costly investment to maintain. That’s why today, I’ll share how our client, Grey Oaks Country Club, is able to save more than $100K annually on heating costs with our GeoThermal pool heating system.
At Grey Oaks, we installed an innovative, modified system utilizing two different types of heaters: the 90s and 215s. This mix of heaters is a result of rectifying an issue where a previous geothermal company undersized the system, necessitating the use of gas heaters to compensate for heating shortfalls. However, gas heating undermines the primary benefit of geothermal systems—energy savings.
One of the notable features of our installation is the use of racks for the heaters. This allows us to install the units in tight spaces and extends their serviceable life by using a canvas cover for protection. This is not possible with air-source heat pumps, as they require unrestricted airflow.
“We use innovative, modified installation setups tailored to each client’s needs.”
Initially, the geothermal heating relied on wells, which were insufficient to handle the load. Instead of drilling additional wells, we integrated a lake pump system. The heaters now draw water from both the lake and the wells, providing redundancy. If one source fails, the other can maintain heating, ensuring continuous operation.
For Grey Oaks, we determined that precise sizing of the heating system is critical. The pool features a substantial waterfall system and bubblers, both of which significantly increase heat loss. The daily heat loss for this pool amounts to 23 million BTUs. To maintain a consistent temperature of 80 degrees year-round, the heating system we installed needs to replace this heat loss efficiently. During the summer, the system cools the pool to 88 degrees, while in winter, it provides necessary heating. By eliminating gas heaters, the club has saved an additional $20,000 annually, bringing total yearly savings to nearly $100,000 by switching from propane to geothermal.
