Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility, Haines City, FL

Project: Haines City Parks and Recreation Adds Energy-Efficient GeoThermal Pool Heating & Cooling to a Second Aquatic Center
Year-Round Swimming Comfort at the Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility
Guests at the Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility can now enjoy the 84,012-gallon pool comfortably all year long, thanks to a GeoThermal pool heating and cooling system installed by Symbiont Service Corp.
One of the greatest advantages of GeoThermal heat pump technology is its ability to maintain consistent water temperatures in every season. Previously, the Janet J. Smith pool was closed during the cooler winter months due to the lack of heating. When open during warmer seasons, pool temperatures fluctuated with weather conditions, often becoming too warm or too cool for optimal swimmer comfort.
With the new GeoThermal heat pump system in place, the pool will maintain a steady, comfortable 84°F year-round, regardless of air temperature or weather conditions. Even during Florida’s hottest summer months, the system will actively cool the water, ensuring a refreshing and enjoyable swimming experience for guests.
Comfort Without Breaking the Bank: Water Source Heat Pump Technology
While installing a commercial pool heating and cooling system represents a significant upfront investment, Haines City Parks and Recreation selected GeoThermal technology for its long-term efficiency and cost savings compared to conventional heating methods.
Key benefits of GeoThermal pool heating and cooling include:
- Cost-Saving Water Source Technology: GeoThermal pool heat pumps transfer heat from a water source, such as a lake or a well, resulting in 70% to 90% lower operating costs compared to a gas pool heater.
- Consistent, High Performance: Because GeoThermal systems are not affected by weather, they reliably outperform solar pool heating systems and air source pool heat pumps.
- Long Service Life: GeoThermal pool heating units typically last up to twice as long as traditional pool heaters, helping reduce maintenance costs and equipment replacement over time.
- Environmentally Friendly Pool Heating: GeoThermal technology uses renewable energy from the earth, significantly reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon emissions.
Performance Proven by Past Experience
Haines City Parks and Recreation was already familiar with the benefits of GeoThermal Pool heating and cooling. In addition to the Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility, the department operates the Lake Eva Aquatic Center, which has been utilizing a Symbiont Service GeoThermal system since 2024.
After a full year of reliable, energy-efficient performance at Lake Eva, the Parks and Recreation team confidently selected Symbiont Service to install a matching GeoThermal system at the Janet J. Smith facility, bringing the same level of comfort, efficiency, and dependability to their second aquatic center.
Wi-Fi Control & Remote Monitoring
In addition to GeoThermal’s inherent efficiency advantages, SYMBIONT GeoThermal units are equipped with advanced Wi-Fi-enabled controls. This technology allows facility staff to securely access and manage the system from anywhere, making it easy to:
- Control heating, cooling, and automatic operating modes
- Adjust temperature setpoints and system settings
- Monitor performance and system status in real time
Every Symbiont Service GeoThermal installation in Florida with Wi-Fi connectivity is also linked to our internal alert network. If the system detects an issue, our service department is automatically notified, allowing our team to respond quickly and minimize downtime.
Looking Ahead to Many Years of Comfort & Performance in Haines City
Haines City Parks and Recreation’s decision to install a GeoThermal pool heating and cooling system at a second aquatic facility speaks volumes about the technology’s reliability and performance. Once the benefits of GeoThermal are experienced firsthand, choosing it again becomes an easy decision.
This project also reflects the strong partnership and mutual trust between Haines City and Symbiont Service. We’re grateful for the continued opportunity to support their aquatic facilities and look forward to many more years of dependable service, collaboration, and community comfort.
