Should You Upgrade The Heat Pump?

By: Robbi Hess | Category: Blog, Heat pump efficiency, Heat Pumps |

Should You Upgrade The Heat Pump? What is a heat pump? This question is one the geothermal experts from Symbiont Service Corp in Englewood, Florida answer all the time. Another question they answer is, “should you upgrade the heat pump?”

First, to explain what a heat pump is; it’s an effective and energy efficient means of heating and/or colling a home or a commerical business in Florida. As with all HVAC systems, a heat pump will eventually need to be replaced. A heat pump will typically last for close to two decades. The longevity of your heat pump will depend on how well you maintain it over its lifespan.

If your heat pump is reaching the twenty-year mark, you may be considering a heat pump upgrade or replacement.

How Does Geothermal Work?

By: Robbi Hess | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy |

Geothermal energy has been utilized for decades although it may still seem like a new technology or way of heating and cooling homes, pools and commerical buildings. The geothermal heating experts from Symbiont Service Corp spend time with their customers explaining the ins and outs when they ask, “how does geothermal work?”

Geothermal energy only represents a fraction of the overall energy market in total usage. This how does geo thermal workrenewalable energy source is efficient, clean and once the system is installed will cost a fraction of the cost other energy sources, like electric.

How Does Geothermal Work?

Even though geothermal energy useage is on the rise in North America, it still lags behind other countries. Sweden, for example has outlawed the use of other forms of energy in favor of geothermal. In fact, Sweden has completely eliminated the use of oil.

The Finished Product for Our Jupiter Home Pool and Lazy River

By: Vyral Marketing | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy, Heat Pumps, Heating and Cooling, Service & Maintenance, Swimming Pools |

We’re back to show you the finished product of our recent pool heater
source pump control upgrade in Jupiter. Here’s what the finished product looks like.

How Can We Help You? Contact Us Today

We’re back for part two of our Jupiter pool heater source pump control upgrade. We’ve finally installed the variable frequency drives and wanted to show you the new system that’s up and running today. If you missed part one of this message, you can view it here.

When the pumps come on, they come on in succession until they reach the desired pressure. This way, the units don’t exceed manufacturer specifications for pressure.

The beauty of installing the VFDs include the soft-starting capability I mentioned before, as well as the ability to set the pump by pressure. Also, if you run a pump at 80% speed, you’ll save 50% on your electrical consumption. Not only will the drive protect the unit it saves on energy consumption and extends the life of the pump.

Part 1 of Our Pool/Lazy River Upgrade

By: Vyral Marketing | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy, Heat Pumps, Heating and Cooling, Service & Maintenance, Swimming Pools |

We recently started an upgrade on a client’s resort-style pool and lazy river. Here’s part one of the process.

Jim Howarth, Director of Field Operations, recently helped a customer of ours upgrade their resort-style pool and lazy river with 10 model 215 pool heaters. Five of them are on their main pool and five are on the lazy river. The five main pool units are on three 5hp submersible pumps. The formal pool holds 175,000 gallons and the lazy river holds 187,000 gallons.

We’re getting ready to install three Yaskawa p1000IQ Variable Frequency Drives that are going to allow us to control the pump flow by pressure. This will ensure that we don’t exceed the manufacturer’s specifications on the pressure going into the coils.

“

The VFDs will allow the pump to get rid
of any pipe hammers or knocks.

Our Geothermal Heating System Saved This Community Thousands of Dollars

By: Vyral Marketing | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy, Heat Pumps |

The Riverwood Activity center in Port Charlotte recently built a new swimming pool.
Today, let’s take a look at their geothermal heating system for it and discuss
how our system helped save Riverwood thousands of dollars.

The Riverwood Activity Center recently demolished its undersized pool and rebuilt a pool that is twice the size of the old pool. Today I’ll explain why bringing in Symbiont Service Corp at the beginning of the project helped them save thousands of dollars heating the new one.

The original pool had four PH-090 geothermal pool heaters that still ran well and had quite a bit of life left in them. The new pool required twice as many heaters. We were able to leave the existing four heaters and, by increasing the pool piping (which sends the pool water to the heaters), we were able to add an additional four heaters to the pool filtration system.

The Header System: What Is It & How Does It Work?

By: Vyral Marketing | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy, Heat Pumps, Swimming Pools |

For today’s topic, we’ll unpack all that goes into the basic header system:
how it works and its purpose in the larger process.

How Can We Help You? Contact Us Today

Today we’ll dive into the particulars of the header system and how it all works.

The header system in front of us today is a fairly large system. We plumb what is known as a “reverse return header system.” The purpose of such a system is to create an equal flow in every area by equalizing pressure throughout the whole unit.

What Do Our Geothermal Pool Heating Systems Look Like in Action?

By: Vyral Marketing | Category: Blog, GeoThermal Energy, Heat Pumps, Service & Maintenance, Swimming Pools |

Today we’re bringing you a quick walkthrough of one of our most recent installation projects.

How Can We Help You? Contact Us Today

Our team recently installed a large geothermal pool heating system at Eagle Lakes Community Park, and we’re going to give you a quick peek at the system today.

You can follow along in the video above to see Mike Jaques, one of our team members, walk through the systems and explain how they work.

The systems we installed are heating not one, but four different pools at the park: the lap pool, family pool, slide tower, and wading pool.

The lap pool is being heated with two PH 215 units. These large-model heaters provide a better carbon footprint than using several smaller units when it comes to heating and cooling larger pools. The PH 215 puts out 215,000 BTUs and has two heat exchangers within the unit.

Another unit featured in our video is the PH 90—a smaller system that puts out 90,000 BTUs and has one heat exchanger per pool. This system is designed to heat smaller pools, which is why we’ve decided to use it in conjunction with the PH 215 units we described earlier. It’s sometimes necessary for us to mix and match various units within a pool heating system to achieve the most efficient solution for a project.

Now that we’ve covered the units we used for this project, you may be wondering how they work.

“

The systems we installed are heating not one,
but four different pools at the park: the lap pool,
family pool, slide tower, and wading pool.

”

There are three main components to a pool heater: the pool water coil, the source water coil, and the freon system. Using these components, water is pumped out of the pool, through the geothermal units’ heaters, and then pumped back in.

Pool heating systems also use closed-loop, lake, and aquifer well source water, which is moved constantly throughout the heaters. In the case of the system we’re showing you today, we used aquifer well source water.

Heaters will automatically sense and send signals to a component called the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) when source water is needed.

I hope this information, along with the walkthrough tour of the system featured in the video above, has given you a better idea of how geothermal pool heating works and why it’s such an effective solution.

If you have any other questions or would like more information, feel free to give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
