Symbiont Service Corp is proud to announce the completion of our Training Center
One of the most important things in the service business is training, therefore, Symbiont Service Corp has consistently maintained a training program in the field, but the challenge has been keeping up with rapidly changing technology.
Our longtime goal has now been realized; we now have an in-house training facility to educate our employees on current technology and to test future technology. Our training center has a completely operational pool heating system, with all of the features we sell to our customers.
We have also developed a method to plug in new technology, as it develops, to test and train. Our technicians will be required to log hours at our training center each year to hone their skills. This will mean better trained technicians to give our customers the best service possible.
Our promise to our customers is, as always, “One Company, One Call, Complete Comfort”!
The City of Gainesville installed GeoThermal units on our largest municipal swimming pool so that we could operate on a year-round basis. From the beginning, Symbiont’s knowledgeable and courteous staff guided us through the process, answered all of our questions, provided important and relevant data, and designed a system that exceeded our expectations. The system came online during the back-to-back brutal winters, and the heating system performed wonderfully! Not only were we impressed at the ability of the system to handle the toughest winter conditions, but it has been operating more efficiently than we had projected. An added bonus was the fact that in the summer we could set the system to cool the pool water. Our citizens have been most impressed with the system, and city staff couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of the units. Attendance at the pool has skyrocketed since the system was installed. And even after the system was installed and operating, Symbiont staff has continued to be there for us, always answering our questions, providing guidance, and meeting our needs. Their service division staff always responds in a quick and timely manner, and has been great at performing preventative maintenance on the units. We have been most pleased with the company and their product, and would highly recommend them to others. We look forward to a continued relationship with the company.

An Interview with Jim Howarth
Jim Howarth has been on his personal journey for 50 years. Building booms, recessions, hanging chads – Jim’s been through it all. Most importantly to the Symbiont family, though, Jim was there – in the beginning – helping founder Roy King in putting the very first Symbiont systems together, and through his entire adult life has been a part of our company.
“In 1980 ago we were called Gulf Aire, and I was just a young service guy hired to be a duct mechanic.” A fast learner, Jim quickly moved to the A/C service department and learned all of the ins and outs of caring for his customers. “The great thing about being in the A/C business in Florida is that everybody needs you. They don’t call it the Sunshine State for nothing.” But under the Florida sun and sand there was a treasure, a source of energy that, as this innovative company learned to harness it, would change things forever.
“We knew about geo-thermal heating – it had actually been around for awhile even back then – and Roy was fascinated by the idea of using it to heat our customers’ pool water, something we really wanted to get in to. We even did some solar for a while, but knew it could never be consistent enough to be the long-term answer we were looking for. Roy always kept coming back to water source.”
Roy, Jim, and the Symbiont crew built and tinkered, re-thought and invented, and fiddled and tinkered some more. Finally, in 1983, their first commercial Symbiont installation, at Englewood’s Japanese Gardens, was successfully installed, and actually continues to work to this day.
“The 80’s were a great time for us, and we knew we were really on to something. Sandy King (Roy’s daughter) and I started working together on the East Coast so we could double the market for Symbionts. She sold them and I installed them.” He laughs, “Yeah, sometimes by myself. I had a really good dolly.” Sandy returned to Englewood in 1996, and shortly after promoted Jim to Service Manager, and he continues to hold the Senior Service Manager position at Symbiont Service Corp today. Asked to describe his job, Jim says, “I just make sure everything gets fixed. Everything. If it isn’t done right, I’m the guy who’s responsible.”
“We’ve got to take advantage of every energy source out there, and I know geo-thermal has a great future”, according to Jim. “It doesn’t get any better than using something that’s already available. Symbiont is in the right place at the right time, and we’re doing really great work.”
When Jim’s not busy taking care of everyone else, he’s an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast, and nearly always has a project of some sort going on. You can connect with him at Jim@SymbiontService.com.
