Is Your Swimming Pool Pump Working Efficiently?
Swimming pool owners in Englewood and other parts of Florida know that in the midst of the humid summer weather the air conditioner and the swimming pool equipment will be running almost non stop. Is your swimming pool pump working efficiently? That is a question you may not have wondered about, but it is top of mind for the geothermal professionals at Symbiont Service Corp.
Inspecting the swimming pool pump and the air conditioning unit at your home or your commercial property is one of the many services we provide to assure the equipment is operating at peak efficiency. You may not be able to control the weather we Floridians experience, but you can control the maintenance and your air conditioning and pool operating bills by having the equipment inspected.
Is Your Swimming Pool Pump Working Efficiently?
If you’re not sure if your swimming pool pump is efficient. If you have doubts as to whether your air conditioning unit is operating at peak performance, give us a call and we can schedule a time to inspect the equipment. Equipment that is operating at its peak efficiency can keep money in your family budget — money that can be spent on exciting summer family entertainment!
Here are some of the items we will inspect if we pay a service visit to your property.
- Pump size matters. Is the swimming pool pump the right size for your pool? A larger pump won’t clean your pool any better, but it will cost you money unnecessarily. For most pool pumps, as researched by the Center for Energy Conservation, a pool pump doesn’t need to have more than 0.75 horsepower to perform the tasks necessary. To assure the pool pump is sized correctly, you will need to know how many gallons of water are in your swimming pool.
- Filter size matters. Rather than increase the size of the swimming pool pump, consider increasing the size of the swimming pool filter. If the filter is larger, the water will pass through it more quickly and that will make it more efficient. Don’t forget to clear away any debris from the filter on a regular basis. If there is debris built up in the filter it will make the pool pump work harder to push the water through and that will cost you money — unnecessarily.
- Pipe size matters. If the pool water has to travel through long, narrow pipes it will use more energy and cost you more money. If you have flexible pipes, rather than angled pipes installed, there will be lower water resistance flow and it will cost you less money.
- Pump running time matters. This may be controversial, but you may be able to cut back the hours per day you run the swimming pool pump. It is sometimes recommended to run the pump up to 12 hours a day in the heat of the summer, but why not cut back on the run time — an hour at a time — and see if the quality of the water is impacted. Your swimming pool service pro may have recommended guidelines, but ask if those are set in stone. Ask what changes in the water you should look for if you decided to run the pump for fewer hours a day.
- Backwash matters. Yes, most swimming pools require the pool to be backwashed. Backwashing using copious amounts of water and energy, but it is necessary to keep the filters clean. As mentioned above, if the filter is dirty the pump works harder and that costs you more money. Ask your pool contractor how often the filter needs to be backwashed and if you can take steps to backwash fewer times during the summer without harming the water quality.
