Florida Faced With Chlorine Shortage
“No Chlorine – No Problem!” the generators that Symbiont Service can replace liquid or tablet chlorine in the pool and eliminates the need for liquid, granular or tablet chlorine. The water won’t taste salty, but will make the water soft and your skin smooth. This year Florida is faced with a chlorine shortage, as are many states across the country.
The geothermal specialists from Symbiont Service who work with commercial pool operators and residential pool owners share the information that there is an unprecedented shortage of chlorine that has the potential to impact summer swimming in Englewood, Florida and the surrounding areas.
What is causing the shortage?
- A massive fire at a chlorine manufacturing plant in the wake of Hurricane Laura
- COVID-19 pandemic
- Supply chain interruptions
There are two domestic manufacturers of chlorine for commercial and residential swimming pools but even if they were able to ramp up production, there would still be a shortage of about fifty percent.
Swimming pool owners – both residential and commercial – are finding difficulties buying chlorine off the shelves and if it can be found, there is an almost seventy percent price increase over the prices in 2020. In 2020 a bucket of chlorine cost about $75, in 2021 the cost is about $153.
Florida Faced With Chlorine Shortage
What can residential pool owners and commercial pool operators do to ensure the pools they own or manage are clean and free of bacteria?
- Bromine is a sanitizing chemical substitute. It is more expensive, but is potentially less irritating to skin than chlorine.
- Switch to a saltwater chlorination system. This doesn’t mean you will have a “saltwater” swimming pool. It will still have trace amounts of chlorine, but help prevent not having to deal with the chlorine shortage.
- Switch to an ozone-treated swimming pool. With this type of pool, water is continually circulated through the ozone generator to remove bacteria and harmful microorganisms.
- The geothermal professionals at Symbiont Service can install a salt-chlorine generator system at your home or commercial building. The saltwater chlorine system we sell will produce a small amount of chlorine daily to keep the chlorine levels in the pool constant.
Here are some of the advantages to switching to a chlorine generator system.
- You don’t have to worry about or be impacted by the chlorine shortage or ever-increasing costs
- It uses ordinary table salt
- Softens the pool water
- You won’t have to store chlorine
- Salt water is easier on your skin and eyes
- Can be used for pools of any size and that makes them ideal for homes or commercial pools.
